"Seeds For The Field"

This class will be five Thursday mornings from 9am to noon, for intermediate to advanced painters with some plein air painting experience. We will work with a small plein air painting (9" x 12", 10 x 12" or 11" x 14") and reference photos to translate into a larger studio painting. You will need to bring a portable easel which can accommodate a larger canvas for your studio painting (20" x 24" or 24" x 30") to be completed during the workshop.

"Laguna Autumn"

A two day workshop painting Sycamore canyon in fall color. November brings a golden light with long shadows and autumn color in the canyon. Learn to translate atmosphere, time of day, and seasonal color. This class is open to beginning artists with some experience, intermediate and advanced.

"This is one of my favorite workshops to teach as I love the canyon and it's endless transformations. It is one of the most expressive subjects for a painter to portray. I will teach you how to paint trees and the fall foliage. Each day begins with an instructor demo and lecture. Students will receive individual attention and instruction each afternoon."

"Carmel Plein Air"

Three day workshop painting in Point Lobos State Park. Spring is the ideal time to paint the majestic northern California coastline. Wildflowers, wildlife, rugged outcroppings and the exquisite beauty of this unique landscape make for great paintings. Learn to translate atmosphere, time of day, and seasonal color. Class open to intermediate artists with some experience, and advanced painters.

The Sea is one of the most expressive subjects for a painter to portray. I will teach you how to capture wave patterns and how to paint rock formations to create strong composition and design. Each day begins with an instructor demo and lecture. Students will receive individual attention and instruction each day.

Fee: $595.00    The cost of the workshop includes accommodations at the Carmel River Inn which is situated amid a pastoral river setting near Point Lobos and Carmel by the Sea. Cost is based on double occupancy. Private rooms are available upon request for an additional charge. No meals are included. Rooms have refrigerators and coffeemakers.

Join Cynthia Britain, nationally known and award winning plein air impressionist, while she paints the beautiful California coastline in Laguna Beach. Her plein air (on location) and studio painting demonstrations will show you how to:
